Invitation by Executive Office of the POTUS to attend symposium how Medicine Responds to Addiction 11. Dr. Marsh has been selected to serve as a panel participant for the symposium

Invitation by Executive Office of the POTUS to attend and moderate a panel symposium regarding how Medicine Responds to Addiction II. This is a group of national leaders in addiction medicine education and training symposium. Among those attending will be: medical school, residency and fellowship innovators who are advancing a curriculum in addiction medicine and can envision their institution becoming a Center of Excellence in this field; leaders of medical boards, examiners, testing and accrediting organizations; leaders of medical student associations; representatives of current and emerging model fellowship training programs; Federal agency representatives; and representatives of supporting institutions and foundations.

The opioid crisis has focused attention on educating physicians regarding opioid use, but there is a critical need for prevention, treatment and management of substance use disorders involving all addictive substances. The Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP) is aware of your institution’s commitment to physician training in these areas because of your work or that of others at your institution. This issue, and medicine’s and medical educators’ response to it, are of critical importance to all of us.
